Project: On-Board Telemetry Data Collection of a NASCAR racecar.

Sensors used:

(2) Accelerometer to measure lateral and longitudinal G's 1 front, 1 rear to reveal understeer/oversteer condition

(4) 0-5V Linear potentiometers to measure Suspension Travel - Calculate Shock Velocity, ride height, tire loading (Dynamic Scaling), track width change, camber change,

(1) 0-5V Linear potentiometer to measure throttle position, correlate with engine RPM and Dyno Test Results to determine torque input to rear axle, check LR loading, Anti-dive,

(1) 0-5V Rotary potentiometer to mearsure steering angle (included fabricating pulley and belt system)

(2) 0-5V Brake pressure sensors

(2) Hall-Effect Wheel speed sensors 1 Front, 1 Rear (involved machining magnet mount to attach to wheel hub and fabricating sensor housing)

(8) Non-Contact Infrared Pyrometers (millivolt) to mearue Tire Tread Temperature (Had to fabricate suspension mounted brackets so the sensors did not move in relation to the wheel

(1) Infrared sensor to read stationary beacon for on-track reference marker and lap timing.

(1) Inductive engine RPM Pickup

(1) Self-Designed  Load Transducer with full bridge Strain Gauge to measure anti-roll bar force

(1) GPS Reciever to track car's location on track

Calibrated all sensors

Sensors read by 28 Channel, 16-bit DAQ sampling at 200Hz

Data then transmitted serially @ 115,200k baud to Laptop in the pits via 1Watt RF Modems for real-time analysis of data.

Wrote custom formulas to derive shock velocity, vehicle speed, vehicle odometer, rear axle slip percentage, Individual wheel loading, Lap Timing,

Data stored on laptop hard drive for post analysis including graphical comparison, Histogram, and FFT.
